Meri’s Musical Musings

More ways you know you’re a musician…

Posted on: May 13, 2015

  1. You are much more likely to have played music from a lot of movies than seen the movies they are from.
  2. You have played music from musicals, film, and TV from your parents and even grandparents generation
  3. You have bought a gift for a fellow musician that is directly related to the instrument they play and they totally loved it!
  4. You know your fellow musicians string brands, reed types, and strengths, and got the correct one, even without a picture reference, either because you wanted to give them a gift they could really use, or you were going to the music store anyway and they asked you to pick them up a box of reeds or strings.
  5. You know your fellow musician’s favourite music stores online and locally
  6. You have determined the kind of car you’ll drive by the size and number of instruments you carry regularly.
  7. You have looked up which composers and performers share your birthday.
  8. You know several pieces from Handel’s Messiah besides the Hallelujah Chorus
  9. You bring a copy of the score to the above work whether it’s a sing along one or not on the correct voice part for your vocal range
  10. Your favorite Beethoven symphony is NOT the 3rd, 5th, or 9th, which are the ones people generally know of.
  11. You have used a music score for an article or essay and not necessarily for writing about music.
  12. You have used an IMSLP score for a reference for writing articles and essays
